Planning the 202 Groningen Crop
by Unknown
Is it that time of year again already?! We've had some very successful Azteca breedings as of late, and are now working to bring that same success into the Groningen herd! This poor group of horses seems invariably struck with bad luck, and lately there have been very few exceptions. Such a limited handful of horses leads us to need to work with whatever we have, and so unfortunately, our latest Groningens born (Vancouver and Sunni) are afflicted with two copies of the gene for genetic disorder. However, we have given both mares a chance, as they have shown us a moderate step up in quality from their parents. Having said that, we are breeding 5 year old Vancouver rather young now that they have filled out, so that she (and soon, Sunni as well) can pass on her lines in the prime of her life before being able to happily retire.
Shocks, on the other hand, is now reaching 17 years old, and we are looking to get one last nice foal from her before she can retire. While she has regressed into quite the pasture puff in recent years, thanks in part to an injury she is just recovering from this month, she has a lot to offer our rare herd.
We will be breeding both Vancouver and Shocks to our best Groningen stallion currently available, our custom boy Streetfighter (and crossing all available appendages that we don't have more GD affected foals!).
